The Sicari Language Glossary

As Latin is a dead language¹, it is reasonable to assume that the Sicari language itself would have evolved (as all languages do) with changes in word usage, dialects, spellings and other grammatical uses. The Sicari would have combined their use of Latin with other Italian dialects over the centuries. Those familiar with either Latin or Italian may find reading the Sicari language jarring. As the author I chose to take poetic license when I created the Sicari world and the subsequent formation of a reasonable approximation of language. Below is a glossary of terms for those interested in the language used in the Order of the Sicari books. Note that there are different words that mean the same thing as over the centuries, dialects and word usage changes.

¹A dead language is one that is no longer the primary language used by a group of people on a daily basis. However, it is still used and studied within scholarly and legal contexts. E.g., Caveat emptor, which means “buyer beware.”
