Pleasure Me With Julianne MacLean

>I first met Julianne online in 2003 (SEVEN years!) and my love of her work began with To Marry A Duke I’ve been a fan of hers ever since that book. Her descriptions are so rich and sumptuous. She’s impressed me not only with her work but with her kindness and gentle spirit as well. Not only that, but she has a deliciously wicked sense of humor. Check out her video gallery to see what I mean, in particular the Mistress Diaries video! LOL Please welcome Julianne to today’s Pleasure Me With Romance guest post!

Greetings everyone, and a special thank you to Monica for inviting me to blog with her today!  (I read Pleasure Me, and it was indeed a pleasure from start to finish.  But I digress…)

So let’s talk Highlanders.  I’ve been writing about London dukes and earls for a while, so it was a wonderful change of pace to write about a very different sort of man.  Let’s call him the “outdoorsy” type.

The heroes in these books are sword-wielding warriors with a dash of savagery in them.  They’re strong and robust, and they don’t always comb their hair.  They move about in a world of rebellion, physical adventure, and rugged terrain. Those particular elements provided me with a splendid opportunity to create a very intense conflict between the hero and heroine, which was different from what I was accustomed to writing about in the past, for I’d never created a situation where the heroine was actually afraid of the hero – and she has good reason to be.   In all three of these books, the tale begins with the hero overtaking the heroine some way.

From bestselling author Julianne MacLean comes the fiery saga of three Highland warriors sworn to protect their homeland—and fight for the women they love…

THE ENEMY IN HER BED
Lady Amelia Sutherland would rather die than surrender to a man like Duncan MacLean. He is the fiercest warrior of his clan—her people’s sworn enemy—and tonight he is standing over her bed. Eyes blazing, muscles taut, and battle axe gleaming, MacLean has come to kill Amelia’s fiancé. But once he sees the lovely, innocent Amelia, he decides to take her instead…

THE LOVER IN HIS ARMS
Stealing the young bride-to-be is the perfect revenge against the man who murdered Duncan’s one true love. But Lady Amelia turns out to be more than a pawn of vengeance and war. This brave, beautiful woman touches something deep in Duncan’s soul that is even more powerful than a warrior’s fury. But when Amelia begins to fall in love with her captor—and surrenders in his arms—the real battle begins…

In the first book, he kidnaps her for revenge.  In the second book, he invades and conquers her castle and claims her as his wife.  In the third book…  Well, that’s complicated, and it doesn’t come out until October, so I won’t go into that yet.

This fierce conflict between the characters had a wonderful silver lining, however, for I was able to create some very courageous women – because let’s face it, getting kidnapped by a savage-looking warrior (who is known as the Butcher of the Highlands) isn’t your garden-variety walk in the park.

I had a great time writing these books, and I was sorry when the third book came to an end and I had to send it off to my editor.  I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them, but in the meantime, let’s give away a book – THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF SCOTTISH ROMANCE!

(And I have an extra bonus for you.  The short story prequel to the series, which is included in the MAMMOTH BOOK OF SCOTTISH ROMANCE, is also available as an Ebook version.  It is available for FREE on Smashwords right now.  Here is the link:

  1. >I must admit the series sounds yummy. As I said before scrumptious sweaty hero type men are always a yes in my book. I really look forward to reading the series. When you write a book (or series) do you visit any of the places included in your book? Or at least the area? I prefer American writers to British ones..I find American writers are a bit more adventurous and have a much more naughty flair in their writing. But you never know! Thanks for letting me comment!

You wrote that one of the 1st romances you read was a Viking romance… Do you remember the name of it? I've already commented today so I've already entered your contest but I couldn't resist asking which book enticed you at that time?

Pat – you mention that Highlanders were the first romances you read. Mine was a Viking romance, which I loved, and I think some of that old Viking alpha male flavor came out in these books 🙂

  27. >Julianne –

I've read all your books except Sleeping with the Playboy but I particularly loved the American Heiress Series. The only thing I could find fault with was the wait between books – I hate to wait for the next release!

I can't wait until March for your first book in the Highlanders series to be released. My husband and I were lucky enough to visit Scotland, the home of my ancestors, and we fell in love with it (actually it may have been the single malt Scotch whiskey my husband fell in love with but he did promise to take me back there one day).

  28. >Thanks for commenting everybody! And no, Julia, you're not wrong to enjoy the prospect of a hero called the "Butcher of the Highlands" :). When I first imagined Duncan MacLean, before I even started writing about him, I was tired of dukes with walking sticks, and envisioned a Highlander who always carries an axe… Hence the name :).

Well, if I can't go back to the Highlands and Islands in person, a book is the next best way to get there! But the very best would be to have both – the trip and the book!

    Mmm. Men in kilts.

If wasn't so cold today (Texas is having it's one winter day, and everyone's freaking out over it — layer of ice on the roads covered by a thin layer of snow)…I'd ask the hubby (referred to as the Bagpiper) to walk around in his kilt for my amusement.

    😛

'cept he wouldn't, cause as much as his kilt/bagpipe gear cost him, it's only brought out for gigs.

Irish and Scottish heritage are a particular favorite of mine and I am excited for your new series. I love, love, love Highlanders. Love everything about them (well maybe not the grooming habits) and I love reading about them. I like the tough as nails exterior. It makes the heroine work extra hard to break down the barriers to his heart. I like that she is the only person that ever gets to see a softer side of him.

  55. >Hello, Julianne! The story line for your books sounds very intense–most appropriate for the characters and the era. "Mammoth" is a perfect word to describe the charm of a Highlander Hunk ; ) Highlanders are brawny, brave, intense Alpha males. The “Alpha” male is the dominant leader of the pack. They have qualities and strengths which make them “number one”! Along with all that greatness can come arrogance, a “my way is the only way” attitude, and a sometimes ornery personality. However, their fierce devotion to their loved ones, their loyalty and their innate honor all go together quite nicely to smooth the rough edges. I love big, gruff, tough men who have even bigger hearts and an inner core of compassion. I also appreciate intelligence and humor, but kindness is the essential quality. Vulnerability is sometimes the key to an alpha male. What he may consider to be his weakness is actually the inner force which makes him an alpha. Alphas are external and more obvious. They have the immediate physical impact. A relationship with an Alpha may be incendiary, but will it last? When the fire burns down, will the embers linger? It takes an equally strong woman to use her wits and wiles to surprise, soothe, and seduce her Highlander! That's the fun of the duel and dance of historical romance : )
